Vikings,

SUITECASES (bags, luggage) and MEDICATIONS are due for check-in/drop off TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 2, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium for all who are travelling to Orlando with the band. The truck will be loaded and will depart for Orlando on Wednesday, November 3.

This is a mandatory meeting for parents of students going to Disney. Students should attend if at all possible. All questions and concerns will be addressed at this meeting.

BEFORE YOU PACK… check: www.weather.com this will help you in your clothing decisions. The forecast has changed…RAIN is being called for on Thursday, and the lows have dropped into the mid 40’s at night.

*** IMPORTANT NOTE *** FOR THE RETURN TRIP HOME - we will be packing up our suitcases and loading up the truck on SATURDAY NIGHT!

What this means:
You will be getting ready for the day on Sunday WITHOUT your suitcase. You will be responsible for carrying your PJs and toiletries with you on the plane on Sunday. Bring a SMALL overnight bag to hold these items. Toiletries MUST conform to TSA requirements. Please plan ahead…

You will NOT need to carry it around with you in the park the last day. We will have overnight bags stored at the hotel and will retrieve them before we depart for the airport.

Lastly – do not forget your WHITE UNDERWEAR, SOCKS, SHOWSHIRT and WINDSUIT JACKET.

With Pride!

Vikings,

· We will be having a MANDATORY parent meeting (of only those students that are going to Orlando) on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. YES this is a teacher workday and there is no school. ONE PARENT PER STUDENT (FAMILY) IS REQUIRED.

· Tuesday
, November 02 is also when all LUGGAGE and MEDICATIONS are due for check-in. As you may recall, we are not taking any luggage with us on the plane. You will need to plan your daily toiletries, and medications so that you will have what you need for Wednesday and Thursday as you will NOT see your LUGGAGE from Tuesday night until we arrive at the hotel on Thursday.

· The All Star Music Resort has hair dryers in every room. You do not need to bring one with you.

· Don’t forget to pack your white socks, and white underwear to wear under your marching uniform on Friday! Also remember to bring your MARCHING BAND SHOES! Guard girls, you have lots to remember!

· Before you pack check out: weather.com and search “Disney World, Fl, United States.” The 10 day forecast today (10-28-10) is calling for upper 70’s to low 80’s as the highs during the days we are there, and the lows in the mid 50’s for the evenings. You will want to bring your wind suit jacket with you. Don’t forget to wear/bring comfortable walking shoes.

· If you are planning on bringing your toiletries with you on the plane, here are some things to consider:

Taken directly from the TSA website: http://www.tsa.gov/311/

o Make Your Trip Better Using 3-1-1
o TSA and our security partners conducted extensive explosives testing since August 10, 2006 and determined that liquids, aerosols and gels, in limited quantities, are safe to bring aboard an aircraft. The one bag limit per traveler limits the total amount each traveler can bring. Consolidating the bottles into one bag and X-raying them separately from the carry-on bag enables security officers to quickly clear the items.
o 3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.
o Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.
o 3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.
o Declare larger liquids. Medication are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

Final itinerary, flight arrangements, call times, return times, money, emergency phone numbers, etc…will all be covered at the meeting on Tuesday.

See you there!

Vikings,

· The next Orlando payment installment is due September 15th, which is Wednesday in the amount of $118.75.

· This payment date is also the last date to pay for the trip in full to receive a 5% discount, making the total cost for the trip $570.00 ($600.00 less the 5% discount of $30.00).

· AND September 15th is also the very last day to pull your student from this trip. Should you decide you need to pull your student, you must inform the booster organization and the travel coordinators IN WRITING. After this date, you will not only be responsible for the entire airfare (of $277.15 less the deposit of $125.00 = $152.15 still due), but you will also be responsible for the entire trip (totaling $600.00), there are no exceptions.

· REMINDER: All marching band fees and any other outstanding music program fees must be paid in full prior to the band departing for Orlando. The only exception will be for those with an already negotiated payment plan in place prior to September 15th. If you need a payment plan, you must contact me ASAP.

Lastly, we finally have the parade date and time…

The Mighty Viking Marching Band will be performing in the “Dreams Do Come True” parade at 2:30 pm, on Friday, November 5th, 2010 in Disney’s “Magic Kingdom.”

Some of you have asked what airport we are flying from and the airport we are flying in to, and you’ve wondered how we will get to the airport. We will be meeting at the school very early on Thursday, November 4th to board school buses to Washington/Reagan International Airport (DCA) where we will fly out of the area to the Orlando Airport (MCO). Due to the very early call time, we will most likely have bag check-in the night before on Wednesday, November 3rd. We will be sending our luggage, uniforms, instruments, flags and everything else we will need for the band to perform in the parade in a Ryder truck driven by two of our boosters so we will NOT be exposed to any extraneous fees from the airline. We are staying at the Disney "All Star Music" Resort. We will have a parent’s meeting with an agenda and all the specifics prior to the week of our trip.

We are very excited about this trip, and we look forward to a great experience!

All,

"DISNEY TAG-A-LONGS"

Should you like to "tag-a-long" with the band in Orlando but are NOT FLYING with the band to Orlando, you need to let us know no later than tomorrow night after Show and Tell. Please fill out a commitment form (same as the students), with names of all joining us (so we can get a head count) and hand the form directly to either Isabelle Kardatzke or Venita Acker DURING THE POTLUCK. We are finalizing our package with Disney Friday am. This includes all rooms, meal plans and park hoppers. This is ONLY if you would like to stay at "All Star Music Resort" where the band is staying (at the group rate we have already negotiated), and participate in all the band is doing AFTER you get yourself/your family to Orlando. After Friday am, you will need to make your own arrangements for accommodations, meals and park hopper plans.

"ORLANDO PAYMENTS"

Don't forget to get your next Orlando payment of $118.75 in Thursday, September 2nd at the latest. The next installment is due on September 15th. September 15th is also the last day you can pull your student from the trip, but remember, you must notify the boosters and the planning team in writing - and you will still be responsible for paying for the full cost of the plane ticket. If after this date you choose to pull your student, you will be responsible for paying for the entire cost of the trip ($600.00).

"REMINDER - SHOW & TELL"

Show and Tell is tomorrow, Thursday, September 2nd, followed by a POTLUCK DINNER (food assignments below). Please plan to arrive with your food before 6:00. Call time for the band is 5:00 for rehearsal (4:45 is ON TIME; 5:00 is LATE). The band will begin their performance at 6:00 SHARP! Don't be late - as this performance is FOR YOU!

What to bring? Plan for your dish to feed 8 - Last names beginning with:

"A through H" - Side dish or salad

"I through P" - A main dish

"Q through Z" - Desserts

The Band Boosters will provide drinks and paper products.
This is always a fun event as we see this season's show together for the first time as well as meet and mingle with this year's "MIGHTY VIKING MARCHING BAND" family. A general booster meeting will also be held during the evening in the cafeteria.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night.

With Viking Pride!

Good Evening Marchers, Color Guard, and Parents,

Please find attached the commitment form for the Orlando trip. The boosters have worked very hard to keep the costs down knowing there are a lot of expenses being paid out at this time of the year. Please know we will work with you to ensure your children do not miss out on this opportunity to perform in a Disney Parade. Just contact Tami Cope-Jones, Booster President, as noted in the attached letter, if you have any questions or need to set up a payment plan. This is going to be a fantastic trip!!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Go Vikings!!
